I am awakened to my tiny drop perspective in a never ending universe of understanding God. I am small. He is infinite. I often think very small and find myself spending energy where I am not needed.
Why do we as followers of Jesus spend so much time trying to fight the world? People? Organizations?
“FIGHT. FIGHT. FIGHT.”
I feel the pull of religious fervor to change the world and win battles for God. I get fired up about immorality, government, politics and culture thinking that I have this profound role to play in setting it right for God. How do I get here? Does my battling the forces of the world even matter? Does the God of the universe need me to fight His battles?
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6.12
I love the sobering power of truth. I am to fight. Fight the battle of faith in me. Makes sense. My soul is a battlefield of thoughts and choices and I am to fight and hold the position…wait…He’s already won. Jesus did not die so I could fight the world, He died and won so I could live in that victory.
How much energy do we spend in fighting battles everywhere else except in our own life? I have found we are often frustrated and angry with the things that are most true about ourselves. Think about your fight today.
May the never ending God of the universe restore your perspective in seeing the victory already won for you and I. Fight the good fight!
